About Corten Steel
Corten Steel naturally weathers over time to create a beautiful rusty orange-brown patina. It is often selected for its practical benefits and corrosion resistant qualities, but recently has become the trendy choice for garden landscaping. Corten is incredibly strong and was originally developed for bridge building. Corten develops its own protective film which slows the rate of corrosion. This saves costs as there is no need to paint the product…EVER!. Corten steel is extremely durable and has a far higher resistance to atmospheric corrosion than other steels.
During the weathering process the Corten Steel produces carbon run off which can stain adjacent materials such as stone or concrete. To reduce any possible staining, we recommend placing a suitable slab of stone/concrete underneath the product to prevent direct contact with the flooring. After the initial reactive period Corten Steel will cure and self-seal with little to no carbon run off. Please do not place our Corten products on any surface that may be stained during the weathering process as we will not accept any responsibility for damage caused to adjacent materials as a result of carbon run off.
